Looking for a Sale Samurai Alternative? Here's What We Built (And Why It's Different)
Sale Samurai is a solid Etsy keyword and listing tool. But it won't tell you what your competitors changed yesterday. So we built Peeksy — a Sale Samurai alternative for market monitoring.
By the team behind Jellies Design — 85,000+ Etsy sales, 4.9★ rating
If you're reading this, you probably already use Sale Samurai — or you're comparing it against other Etsy tools before you commit. Fair question to ask, because Sale Samurai is a genuinely useful keyword research tool.
Sale Samurai bundles real Etsy search volume data, tag suggestions, a Chrome extension you can use directly on Etsy while browsing, and a listing creator that helps you draft titles, tags, and descriptions. For sellers trying to figure out which keywords to target, it's a reasonable, affordably priced option.
So why did we build something else?
Because after running an Etsy shop with 85,000+ sales, we learned that knowing which keywords to use is only half the job. The other half is knowing what your competitors are actually doing — right now, today, this week. That's a different problem, and it needs a different kind of tool.
What Sale Samurai Does Well
Before we get into what's missing, let's be fair about what Sale Samurai gets right.
Keyword research is the core of the product. It pulls real Etsy search volume and competition data, and the free Chrome extension surfaces that data directly on Etsy search results and listing pages — no need to alt-tab between browser tabs while you're researching.
Tag suggestions help you fill out the 13 tag slots on a listing without guessing, based on what's actually driving traffic for similar products.
The Listing Creator is a newer addition — it auto-generates titles, tags, and descriptions to speed up the drafting process for new listings.
Pricing is simple. One plan, $9.99/month or roughly $8.33/month billed annually at $99.99/year (at time of writing), no feature gating between tiers. If you've been burned by tools that lock half their useful features behind a higher tier, that simplicity is worth something. The tradeoff is there's no free tier — just a 3-day free trial, so you can't keep it around indefinitely as a free second opinion the way you can with some competitors.
We're not here to talk Sale Samurai down. For keyword research on a reasonable budget, it does its job.
The Gap We Kept Running Into
Here's what happened to us at Jellies Design. We'd do our keyword research, update our tags, launch new listings — and then we'd notice something: a competitor quietly dropped their prices by 20% across their top listings. Another one suddenly had 15 new products in a niche we thought was ours. A third had rewritten all their tags overnight and started outranking us.
We didn't find out from a keyword tool. We found out by manually checking competitor shops. Every. Single. Day.
To be fair, Sale Samurai does have a Competition Tracker — it lets you look up competitor shops and see sales counts, favorites, listing counts, and a historical graph of that shop's activity over time. That's more than a pure keyword tool offers, and it's a genuinely useful feature for a quick check on a shop you're curious about.
What it doesn't give you is a system that watches your market continuously and tells you the moment something changes:
- Automatic price change detection — with alerts, not something you have to go check yourself
- New vs. reactivated listing classification — is this a genuinely new product or a restock?
- Tag change tracking over time — what did a competitor add or remove, and when?
- Sales velocity within a single day — not just a daily or historical shop-level graph
- Email digests — a daily or weekly summary in your inbox, no dashboard-checking required
For a shop our size, manually monitoring competitors was eating 30–45 minutes a day. Looking up one shop at a time in a competition tracker doesn't scale when you're watching 10, 20, or 50 competitors across a niche.
So We Built Peeksy
Peeksy is not a Sale Samurai replacement. It's the tool we wished existed alongside it.
The core idea is simple: Peeksy watches your competitors so you don't have to. It takes snapshots of every tracked shop and listing on a schedule, compares them to the previous snapshot, and tells you what changed.
Here's what that looks like in practice:
Price Change Detection + Alerts
When a competitor drops (or raises) their prices, Peeksy catches it and sends you an email alert — old price, new price, when it happened. Instead of stumbling on a shop's Competition Tracker page and noticing a price is different from what you remember, you get told the moment it happens.
Sales Velocity Tracking (Every 6 Hours)
Peeksy captures shop-level KPI snapshots four times a day, not once. A daily or historical view tells you "this shop sold 12 units today." A 6-hour snapshot tells you "this shop sold 8 units between noon and 6 PM — right after they dropped their prices." That's the difference between knowing what happened and understanding why.
New, Updated & Reactivated Listing Classification
When a competitor adds listings, Peeksy doesn't just say "5 new listings." It classifies them: genuinely new product, seasonal reactivation, or an update to something they already sold. A shop adding 20 "new" listings might just be restocking — very different from a shop launching 20 real new products.
Tag Change Detection Over Time
This is one of Peeksy's unique features. When a competitor changes the tags on their listings, you see exactly what was added and removed. Over time, that reveals their SEO strategy evolution — and surfaces keywords you might be missing, complementing whatever keyword research you're already doing elsewhere.
Email Briefings That Come to You
You don't need to open a dashboard to know what changed. Peeksy sends daily or weekly email digests summarizing competitor activity: price changes, new listings, sales spikes, tag updates. Scan your inbox, know the state of your market in 60 seconds.
Tag Gap Analysis
Compare your own tags directly against a competitor's, side by side. See what keywords they're using that you're not — actionable within minutes.

Peeksy answers: "What did my competitors change? When did they change it? How is the market moving?"
Pricing Comparison
| Sale Samurai | Peeksy Free | Peeksy Starter | Peeksy Growth | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $9.99/mo (or ~$8.33/mo billed yearly) | $0 | $9.99/mo | $24.99/mo |

Peeksy's Starter plan lands at the same price as Sale Samurai's monthly plan, but they're budgets for different jobs — like comparing what you spend on research versus what you spend on surveillance. Both are useful, they just answer different questions.
Who Should Consider Peeksy?
Peeksy isn't for every Etsy seller. If you're just starting out with fewer than 50 listings, your time is better spent on keyword research and getting your first listings live — Sale Samurai's territory.
Peeksy makes sense when:
You're in a competitive niche. If there are 10+ shops selling similar products, knowing what they change and when is the difference between reacting in time and finding out too late.
You've outgrown manual competitor checks. If you're spending 20+ minutes a day looking up competitor shops one at a time, Peeksy automates that and sends you the highlights instead.
You care about pricing strategy. If you've ever been undercut on price and didn't notice for weeks, price change alerts alone are worth the subscription.
You sell in European markets. Peeksy is the only Etsy intelligence tool with native German and French language support. If you sell to DACH or Francophone markets, most other tools treat you as an afterthought.
You already use Sale Samurai (or eRank, or EverBee). Peeksy complements those tools rather than competing with them. Use Sale Samurai to find your keywords and draft your listings. Use Peeksy to watch the market after you've launched.
The "Built by Sellers" Part Isn't Marketing Fluff
Most Etsy tools are built by software companies studying the market from the outside. We built Peeksy because we needed it for our own shop.
Jellies Design has been on Etsy since 2019. We've sold over 85,000 products, maintained a 4.9-star rating, and learned most of our lessons the hard way — including the lesson that no existing keyword tool was showing us what our competitors were actually doing.
Every feature in Peeksy exists because we ran into a real problem running a real Etsy shop. Price change alerts? We got undercut by a competitor and didn't notice for two weeks. Tag change detection? We watched a competitor gradually adopt all our best-performing keywords. Email digests? Because opening browser tabs every morning to manually check competitor shops one by one is not a good use of a seller's time.
We're not guessing what sellers need. We know, because we need it too.
Try It Free — No Credit Card Required
Peeksy has a free tier. You can track 2 shops, get 7 days of history, and see the dashboard in action. No credit card, no trial that expires, no commitment.
